"Walk On" was always the front-runner to open the album.
It is one of those songs that had to wait to find its time. Written a few years back when a guitarist left one of my previous bands, it was my way of saying: go and do your thing, it's over, don't come back. The song resurfaced when my current guitarist and partner-in-crime Félix Tellier-Pouliot heard my old demo and said: "We need to do this song!" Sure enough, the second we started playing it live, its energy and drive had the crowds roaring its approval.
The Fleetwood Mac influence, more specifically the Lindsey Buckingham influence, is definitely prominent and our recording engineer Mathieu Dulong did a great job of capturing that spirit.
The lovely Rachel Diabo, for whom the song was originally written to sing, does a great job on backing vocals and harmonies. Some have said we've never sounded better together... they may be right!
lyrics
Walk On (Comeau)
Meeting in the building
Five o'clock, don't be late
This thing we've got needs fixing
Not gonna last at this rate
Things were said that evening
When simple haste turns to hate
I think I hear the bells ring
Time for you to dissipate
Always felt so small with you
You always did look down on me
Always felt just a little uneasy
And I always thought you'd walk away
Now that you're gone...
Walk on
Walk on and don't look back
Don't look back
Walk on and don't look back
Walk on
Walk on and don't look back
Baby, don't look back
Walk on and don't look back
Tried to win you over
Played by your rules for awhile
Now look at you, don't cowar
Just keep on walking on down that line
Went on your "simple mission"
Sang with you all through the night
Kept a "happy disposition"
You just tried to prove you were right
Always felt so small with you
You always did look down on me
Always felt just a little uneasy
And I always thought you'd walk away
Now that you're gone...
Walk on
Walk on and don't look back
Don't look back
Walk on and don't look back
Walk on
Walk on and don't look back
Baby, don't look back
Walk on and don't look back
Never did say you were sorry
Never did apologize
Never did thank us
No, you never did acknowledge
Meeting in the building
Five o'clock, don't be late
This thing we've got needs fixing
Not gonna last at this rate
Always felt so small with you
You always did look down on me
Always felt just a little uneasy
And I always thought you'd walk away
Now that you're gone...
Walk on
Walk on and don't look back
Don't look back
Walk on and don't look back
Walk on
Walk on and don't look back
Baby, don't look back
Walk on and don't look back
