This, the album's first single, is a collaboration between myself and my brother, Yanik, a talented writer and creative force.
I don't usually use other people's lyrics as songwriting is such a personnal thing to me. However, I had a chord progression that had been playing in my head on a loop for days that I couldn't find words for. I remembered this poem Yanik had given me a couple of weeks earlier. To my amazement, the fit was perfect and completely natural.
The second I played it for the band, Félix immediately came up with that signature riff and Sebastien and Tommy gave it that driving, pulsating groove.
On harmonies are two of the members of Montreal's Crackers & Jam, Julian Rice and Adrian Vaktor. They added to the emotional nature of the song and I was thrilled to hear them harmonize so beautifully.

The Time We Had (Music: Max Comeau/Lyrics: Yanik Comeau)
I will sing the pain, I put you through
I will sing the harm you knew I'd do
I'll sing all the work it'll take us to
Get over all the good times too
I will cry like rain, until I'm through
I'll smoke a bit, I'll drink a few
I'll think of all the things that I knew
I'd have a hard time giving you
Well I guess that's all the time we had
Endings are always kinda sad
But what we had, wasn't so bad
I'd even say, but don't get mad
It's probably the best time I ever had
The time we had
So why would I risk it all away
How could I lead my heart astray
How could I think it wouldn't matter
Don't I wish I had the answer... the answer
Well I guess that's all the time we had
Endings are always kinda sad
But what we had, wasn't so bad
I'd even say, but don't get mad
It's probably the best time I ever had
The time we had
You knew I'd try to do things right
We always talked into the night
I always tried to keep it in the light
Till it all want wrong, that fateful night
Well I guess that's all the time we had
You closed the door, it's kinda sad
But what we had, wasn't so bad
I'd even say, but don't get mad
It's probably the best time I ever had
The time we had
Well I guess that's all the time we had
Endings are always kinda sad
But what we had, wasn't so bad
I'd even say, but don't get mad
It's probably the best time I ever had
The time we had
