about

A special thanks to my good friend Jean-Claude for telling me he'd had a dream where I had a hit with a song called "Morph as You Wish". It seemed rather random, but it was a line that instantly made sense to me.

I changed that title, but it could very well be an alternate title as it's the chorus signature. Lovers who transform or morph into whatever it is you desire, lovers that truly know how to act the part ... it can be so addictive yet so unhealthy and potentially destructive. Relationships based on lies and fantasies don't usually end well. I was very much in that world when I wrote this song and though it's very romantic, there's a definite darkness burried in there too.

Michael Daniel Murphy deserves a whole lot of credit for transforming what was, originally, a simple acoustic demo into an epic McCartney/Elton-esque number. He gave the music dynamics and dimensions that weren't really there in my original strumming pattern. Kento Kataoka, producer, bassist and guitarist extraordinaire did an amazing job at capturing all the elements that went into this song and he also understood what the song really needed. I hope to work with him again. Listen for his gorgeous volume pedal swells on the electric guitar ... goosebumps. And what about that acoustic jazz guitar solo of Félix's? One of the absolute highlights of the album if you ask me. Love hearing Tommy, on drums, channeling Ringo impeccably. Those fills!

We recorded this song both at Michael Daniel Murphy's condo and then Tommy's house so you could say, there's an extra sense of comfort and home in the sound and feel.

One last shout out - this one for singer-songwriter Rob Lutes who encouraged me to pursue this song I feared was too "simple" when I first recorded the demo. "Sometimes the simplest are the greatest."

lyrics

Imaginary Lover (Comeau)

Imaginary lover
You got me seeing the light
Where all I'd ever known
Was darkness

Imaginary lover
Your kisses taste so sweet
You've got me weakening at the knees
Losing my composure

Morph as you wish
Into the one I've been dreaming of
Morph as you wish
You'll always be the very same to me

Imaginary lover
Started a fire in me
Now you can't, you won't, you don't
Know how to put it out

Morph as you wish
Into the one I've been dreaming of
Morph as you wish
You'll always be the very same to me

Imaginary lover
I held my breath as you walked by
Your eyes seem to say... you want me back
All I've ever known... is dakness
